Within the United States, the magazine's current readership size is more than 13,000. Regional make-up of APCO's magazine circulation is 26 percent East Coast, 23 percent Gulf Coast, 27 percent North Central and 24 percent Western states. APCO's current international circulation is comprised of 32 countries and more than 1,000 readers. More than 55 percent of APCO's magazine readership is comprised of directors, managers and supervisors. An additional 8 percent of APCO's magazine readership is comprised of technicians, engineers, specialists and coordinators who are responsible for maintaining and recommending the purchase of new products and services for their communication centers. These readers work directly with manufacturers and vendors to determine the needs of their communications centers, develop budgets, and authorize purchases according to these needs. APCO's magazine readership also is comprised of 31 percent secondary decision-makers (i.e., dispatchers, telecommunicators, and call takers) who operate the communications center equipment and have considerable influence in the purchase of new products. Finally, 5 percent of APCO's magazine circulation is comprised of commercial readers (i.e., consultants, manufacturers, vendors and distributors). The primary category for commercial readers encompasses the consultants who work with state and local government agencies to design, develop and upgrade their communications operations and equipment. A recent readership survey found that the pass-around rate of Public Safety Communications/APCO BULLETIN is 6.3 per member, bringing our total readership to 88,200. Additionally, a recent independent survey for the APCO Institute found that Public Safety Communications/APCO BULLETIN is the preferred magazine among directors, managers and supervisors of communications centers (79 percent). The survey also showed that APCO's magazine is the only monthly magazine that deals with comm center operations issues. |
