APCO Remembers Life Member James Blesso
James Blesso, former Administrator of the Bureau of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications, passed away on February 18 at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut after a lengthy illness.
For those who did not know Jim, he retired back in the 80s as a Captain from the Hartford Police Department after a distinguished career. At the time, there was much discussion about bringing 9-1-1 to Connecticut. Jim was selected to be the first Administrator of the Bureau that was created to oversee that implementation. He worked long and hard to bring the system to fruition. He did so with a great deal of patience, professionalism and respect. His interaction with others was the same no matter what level- he treated everyone fairly. I never personally heard Jim say a bad thing about anyone.
Jim worked tirelessly to be sure that the people of Connecticut had nothing but the best- he never worried about personal recognition or gain. He is fondly referred to by many who knew him from the beginning as the "Father of 9-1-1 in Connecticut". His contributions will be felt for years to come. His well thought commentary on any issue will be remembered. He was a very active and proud Life Member of APCO.
