APCO PRAISES FCC'S APPOINTMENT OF FURTH
January 29, 2009, Alexandria, Va. - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International today praised Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Acting Chairman Michael Copps for the appointment of David Furth as acting chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau.
“APCO International looks forward to continuing our work with David during his time in this new role,” APCO International President Chris Fischer said. “He has long distinguished himself a dedicated public servant.”
Furth is the 2007 recipient of APCO International's Leadership in Regulatory Service Award. Derek Poarch, outgoing chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, was also honored by APCO with the 2008 Leadership in Advancing Communications Policy Award.
“We also deeply appreciate Derek Poarch's service as bureau chief,” Fischer said. “Derek brought real-life public safety experience to the FCC and helped to fashion important public safety policy initiatives.”
