APCO Engineering Services

Service and Fee List - Click here

APCO AFC has a wide array of application preparation and RF engineering capabilities. If you have a need for specific assistance, please contact AFC directly for detailed information.

APCO has been a leader in public safety communications and spectrum management for over fifty years. Our engineering staff is fully qualified and experienced in frequency coordination and interpreting FCC Rules and Regulations. We offer prompt and courteous service at competitive rates.

If you wish to request Engineering services you may do so by submitting the Engineering Services Request Form . Once this form is submitted a member of APCO's Engineering staff will contact you.

If you are puzzled by the basic 601 Form, APCO can assist through APCO's
Licensing Service (click for more info) .

Member Benefits

APCO is also able to provide a discount for APCO members for coordination services not specific to frequency coordination. The member discount level is 10% of the invoice total for all non-official frequency coordination services. APCO cannot give a discount for formal frequency coordination due to FCC obligations to provide non-discriminatory service, but APCO is able to provide an incentive for services outside of frequency coordination. All Engineering Services listed below qualify for this discount.

Free Membership. If you do not have a current APCO membership, APCO will provide a membership voucher good for one year's membership (standard non-voting privileges) if your total licensing and engineering services invoice total is over $500. Your new membership will qualify you for the member discount on any future AFC Engineering Services as long as your membership remains valid.

Benefits of Membership. In addition to Engineering Service discounts, APCO membership benefits are many. We are the leading representatives for public safety communications on Capitol Hill, in the White House and at the Federal Communications Commission. With more than 13,500 members worldwide, networking opportunities with peers and colleagues are vast. We host the world's largest conference and exposition dedicated solely to public safety communications. We offer a Technical Assistance Program that puts experts at your fingertips. APCO AFC is the only entity approved by the FCC to handle frequency coordination for public safety and is the FCC designated contact for public safety spectrum interference problems. APCO knows training is essential. In fact, we educate and train the thousands of dedicated people who work in public safety communications. Our monthly magazine, Public Safety Communications / APCO BULLETIN is the only journal dedicated to all aspects of public safety communications.

Pre-Coordination Frequency Search
One of the steps required to design a radio system is determining the frequency band, range, and even specific frequencies available prior to committing further resources or expenditures. APCO is able to run searches outside of the coordination process to help. We would be glad to assist in determining the availability of suitable spectrum before an agency is required to make extensive commitments. APCO cannot reserve, hold, or otherwise guarantee any resulting frequencies identified by a search process.

Knowledge of the availability of appropriate spectrum (or lack there of) for any system may be a major decision point in the progress of any radio system. A Range Search is useful in determining the general and specific availability of any spectrum. Subsequent detailed studies of specific frequencies further refine the process allowing for potential interference analysis and frequency compatibility. Site searches will help determine potentials for interference and compatibility and are especially useful in determining sources of actual or potential interference.

Propagation analysis is useful in determining the suitability of an identified radio site and/or frequency. Interference analysis is the last step in reviewing a candidate frequency. If raw distance is not available to protect from interference, a detailed study including terrain factors, system design factors, etc. may be required. Uses include locating an acceptable frequency or providing sufficient engineering information required by the FCC for waivers, concurrence from adjacent system users, etc. Example propagation/interference studies - click here.

Standard Services and Fees

Range Search

$125 per site, per band, per report.  One site plus choice of band: VHF-Hi, UHF below 800, VHF-Low, UHF-800 etc. for user-specified distance and location (lat/long).    User may specify reduced range within the band.  Range search shows only frequencies and distances from the proposed site. No analysis is included.

Single Frequency Search

$100 per frequency/site report.  Includes co-channel and adjacent channel information out to user-specified distance (up to 250 miles) and location (lat/long).  Does not include detailed interference analysis of any potential interference issues.  Used to verify a frequency provided by client or further analysis resulting from range search.

Combination

$150 per frequency/site report.  Range search and a “best” single frequency search (see above item descriptions) and interference analysis (See Interference below).

Site Search

$75 per site.  User-specified location (lat/long), distance and frequency range. Other user defined search parameters other than the specific site (lat/long) include: city, county, licensee name, call sign. Does not include detailed interference analysis of any potential interference issues.   Used to identify other licensed operations in the vicinity.

Propagation Analysis

$125 per frequency/site Contour Methods includes coverage contours as required.    $100 per frequency/site Matrix Methods

Interference Analysis

$100 per frequency/site Contour Methods per pair (interferer/interferee) Each additional site $35 Includes conflict contours as required. $125 per frequency/site Matrix Methods per pair (interferer/interferee) Each additional site $35. TSB88 18 dBu protection criteria.

Optional additions

$25 per site HAAT Calculations

$100 per frequency/site combination DHAAT Calculations, includes contour study

Intermod/TX Noise/RX Desense

$300/hr. Includes a detailed report of problem frequencies and complete list of intermod hits.

$3,000 minimum per site.  Significant discounts for large projects.

Canadian Region Studies per site/frequency

$200 includes fixed base and mobile matrix interference study.

Safe Harbor Justification Studies

$150 per site/frequency.  Does not include justification letter.

TV Band (417-512 MHz) Short spacing

$650 includes waiver, TV notification, and engineering studies.

$125 per site/freq for Pass/Fail Calculations

Prices Subject to Change without Notice - Effective Date January 1, 2005

Propagation and Interference Analysis may be used to support waiver requests requiring studies etc. such as Safe Harbor for VHF/UHF or short spacing for 800 MHz.

Search output may be sorted by a number of characteristics at the specification of the user such as distance, call sign, power or service in an ascending or descending format. The resultant reports may be provided in hardcopy printouts or digitally in universal text format via E-mail attachments or floppy discs.

*Note: Subsequent applications submitted for coordination with listed frequencies will qualify for the "B" category Search/Verification fee for coordination if submitted in a timely manner following the search (contact AFC Engineering for more info. Varies with area of operation.)

Custom engineering and searches will be quoted on request.
